it's basically a really complicated spiderweb of social programs in the US, where all the money just goes in a giant fucking circle back to the federal govt, i have very little actual cash to work with, but more food stamps than i ever know what to do with with how low my appetite is, and as the decade has gone on, because the US government completely bullshits inflation statistics, my income has shifted less into real cash and more into SNAP

my rent is subsidized
my insurance is totally free, but they claw back any money you get from a lawsuit, inheritance, or if you die with a large estate somehow (for old people, they usually sell your house)
my internet is subsidized
my electric bill is subsidized
my cell phone bill was subsidzed in the covid era but congress fucked up and couldn't agree to renew the program
even my fucking amazon prime is subsidized
then once a year, sometime between halloween and thxgiving, i get a check from the govt worth anywhere from $500-$800 called renter's rebate, where i get back money i paid on rent and utilities over the previous calendar year, and the government subsidy on my electricity factors into this, so i get money on money i didn't even get

it's honestly one big fucking mess of red tape and the nordic countries have objectively proven it, just give everyone UBI and you can give people more money and people still want to work anyway because they want to travel and go on vacations and have a house and car and shit >>11879541
