actually, with the level i was at, the only possible way i could beat ultima weapon would be use the one frame trick 777 setzer slot machine roll because he has an attack that scales off your level and nothing else and as a result it does more dmg than you even have hp

Prince Sabin Rene Figaro's ability, the artist formerly known as "Suplex" does more single target damage than his either of his magic based damages against the behemoths because of the bonus stats on his equipment, so that's i could have reached where i'm at a lot faster

i haven't really hit the part of this challenge run where it starts to pose a challenge yet. for example, it's going to be literally impossible for me to get X-Magic, because there's only two ways to do it
1) have Life3/Reraise active on someone when he 9999s you for ultima as his dying attack
2) a perfectly timed Palidor summon where at least one of the 4 chars are still midair once he casts ultima

on my previous playthrough i didn't even bother getting the paladin shield, but on this one i'm absolutely going to need it to get anywhere in kefka's tower, which is where the REAL battle finally begins i'm getting really bad RNG on what encounters give good gil vs what encounters give good exp, so whatever, cya nerds, i'm gonna go buy what i buy, then zone out on the overworld and listen to this beautiful song for like 10 minutes, cause i'm not gonna hear it again in this game for a long time

zephyr capes are also extremely useful in the snes version of ff6 because of the magic evade bug, where they fucked up a pointer and evade and magic evade are the same thing. you can actually get to 100% evasion and absolutely nothing can hit you unless it has the never miss flag also, what seriously pissed me off about this floating continent grind, is for a while i was rolling with edgar having true knight equipped, in order to see if celes could get her limit break off, it's a 1/16 chance, and she definitely attacked more than 16 times and it never went off once :( wanted to screenshot that one because limit breaks are so rare in ff6 and it's usually only locke's that you ever see, because he's the only one with a solid fight command >>11882353

The cause of your error is likely tied to the version of the game. The only version worth playing and worth caring about, after the original Japanese, is the initial USA Woolsey translation. Everything else has always been a massive downslide after that. Every time they try to do it again, they just get it worse and worse and worse.

Now we are getting constructive. The battle commands thing is neat (and unsurprising). The item thing is about right. What I like to do on a maximalist playthrough is to get at least one of everything (253 after final sword steal from last boss guy, sue me).

i can tell you that the monster exp they're just using the cost effectiveness of the monster^2 for the exp cost, so taking the square root of ever single monster led to a completely linear exp curve where i was like level 10 when i got to the floating continent, and flare star was literally one shotting me, and i was like fuck, i have to grind, i have no choice

but because i was esper twinking like made in that playthrough i could actually deal damage, but had no hp/mp. on this playthrough, i have absolutely no esper stats at all, so it's pretty much down to my raw base damage, which the brothers figaro have the absolute best of. locke is pretty good too, but he's the absolute last character you re-recruit, so because of the level averaging mechanic, it makes no sense to use him in a no esper run, he'll just automagically gain like 10+ levels when he gets out of the phoenix cave also, on my first two playthrough i decided if i don't remember where something is, i played this game so many times that fuck it, i don't get to have the item, so i missed both the rune edge and the tempest, but i've since changed my mind, and i need to figure out where the hell the paladin shield is, and i might be in trouble in kefka's tower if i run into the Innosents because they can absolute zero your entire party and i'll have no skills to unfreeze, i'll just have to fucking run >>11882487

ff6 has the better plot, characters, and properly translated dialogue, but ff7 has the better mechanics
